Our Policies
Weather Policy
The Hiawatha Day School places great emphasis on the safety of their staff and clients. The Hiawatha Day School monitors the weather carefully. We do not base our closings on the Cedar Rapids School district.
We will assess the weather and road conditions personally and make the best decision as early as possible to either open or close our center for the day. If in the event weather turns badly in the midst of the day and early release is necessary, parents will be contacted by phone and given ample time to pick up their children. We will do all we can to remain open during winter weather; however safety of our staff and clients will always take precedent. Cooperation from parents is necessary. Our goal is to serve each family to the best of our ability. Tuition is not discounted for weather closings.
Holiday Policy
The Hiawatha Day School was built on the philosophy of hiring top teachers to provide quality education to our children. Because we hire teachers who are licensed and degreed, we must provide incentives and rewards for their dedication. Our teachers are paid for all holidays.
Each year, the Hiawatha Day School will be closed on the following holidays:
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day and day after
- Christmas Eve
- Christmas Day
- New Year's Eve (2009 only)
- New Year’s Day
- Good Friday for Easter
- Memorial Day
- July 4th
Tuition is never discounted for closed holidays.
